Croatian Holiday Bread

Like many Americans, our Thanksgiving meal usually includes a turkey, pies and many types of side dishes. Last year, we tried a version of scalloped corn that had oysters on the top with cracker crumbs. The oysters were new to me and stories were shared around the table about the set of grandparents who always did this. Later, I realized how much we discussed the memories we had about the food we were eating; how our parents would desire the turkey necks and giblets for the stuffing and us kids would pick them out, how we'd save the wishbone to dry out and then have to choose who out of five kids got to pull on the bone, and so on. The memories and stories just flowed around the table.

My neighbor, (85 and still working!) unexpectedly had to move her sister (90) up from Florida to Illinois. Her sister suffered a medical condition and could no longer live by herself. The challenges were many; getting time off of work, flying to Florida during a pandemic, meeting with her sister's medical team, meeting with an estate sale/liquidator, meeting with her sister's neighbors and friends.

One of my favorite shows is Antiques Roadshow. It's fun to see a rummage sale bargain get a valuation 10 times the amount the buyer paid for it. We don't see too many disappointed owners
The importance of handing down memories to the next generation and the one after that…

The idea for Family-Treasures.net came from a convergence of ideas from several conversations that all happened within a month. The first instance began with my fiancé's concern about a family heirloom that he had framed.
