Security Tips
At Family Treasures, we take your privacy and the security of your data seriously and make every effort to secure the contents of your Trove against unauthorized access. That said, we live in a world where hackers are constantly looking for new vulnerabilities in websites and services such as ours, and we cannot offer a 100% guarantee that we'll never be hacked.
To aid in keeping your information and your possessions as secure as possible, here are some best practices that we recommend:
- Enable the Trove Unlock Password (TUP) feature, which protects Troves with a separate password from your account. This makes it harder for someone who gets access to your account to also be able to access your Troves.
- Use a strong passwords for your account login, and your TUP, and do not use the same passwords in Family Treasures that you use for any other site.
- Change your password(s) on a regular basis.
- Enable 2-Factor Authentication to protect access to your login account.
- Enable Passkey support. When logging in with a Passkey, you do not need to enter either password (with the possible exception of having to re-enter your TUP one more time if it is changed after the Passkey is created.) We also treat Passkeys as a second "Factor", so you don't have to enter a 2FA code, either, making Passkey login the smoothest and most secure way to access your Troves.
- Always log out of Family Treasures and close your browser when you are not using it.
- Do not log in to the Family Treasures website from untrusted computers, tablets, or phones.
- Do not share your Family Treasures account with other individuals. It's easy and free for anyone with an email address to create their own Family Treasures account.
- Do not invite untrustworthy people to participate in your Trove(s).
- If you have particularly high-value items in your Trove, avoid giving too much information about their precise whereabouts. It might be better to communicate such information to interested parties using other channels, such as email, text message, or face-to-face communication.
