Trove Backup and Restore
The Backups page lists cloud backups for a Trove. Owners and Administrators can open it from the Trove navigation. Local-only and sample Troves do not have cloud backups.
Automatic and Manual Backups
Automatic Backups are created by the system as Trove content changes. Scheduling considers activity and the time since a prior backup; it is handled in the background. The system applies a retention policy, so older automatic backups may be removed while selected daily and monthly restore points are retained.
Manual Backups are created when an Owner or Administrator selects Create Backup Now. They are explicitly requested and are not the same as scheduled backups. The page labels each entry Auto or Manual and shows its date, size, and format version. Manual Backups are not subject to the same retention policy as Automatic Backups and will persist until an Owner or Administrator deletes the backup.
Download, Restore, and Delete
Use Download to save a backup archive. Because backups are encrypted, a downloaded backup is not of much use. Only backups stored in the cloud can be restored.
Use Restore to open the restore wizard. The wizard summarizes the backup and checks whether your current encryption keys can open it. If keys have changed, it may ask for the password or recovery code in use when the backup was made so it can recover the wrapped keys. Follow the wizard's prompts to complete or cancel the restore.
Deleting a backup is permanent. Automatic retention is system-managed; manual deletion is available from the list and requires confirmation. A backup is useful for recovery, while Import/Export is intended for portable item data; see Import and Export.
