Getting Started

Whether you're here because someone invited you to join their trove or because you'd like to create a trove of your own, we think you'll find Family Treasures is easy to use once you learn your way around the site.

Here are some basics to help you get started.

  • After you create an account, you should see two troves in the Trove List: "Grandpa Johnson" trove and "Olympian family" trove. Feel free to look around and try the features that are available to you.
  • Our site is phone-friendly and tablet-friendly! Log onto the website using a browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari) on your phone/tablet and you can use the camera to upload a picture of a treasure right after you take it. You might want to take all the pictures first and then select them to upload as you create your treasure trove. Use the bookmark or favorite feature in the browser to find our site easily and your browser may let you create a shortcut to the site and looks like an app icon on your phone. One button to open and log in!
  • If you're brand new to this site, you may find it helpful to enable the "Show help tips" option under the "Help" menu. This will display "?" icons near many elements of the site. Hovering your mouse (or tapping the "?" if you're using a touchscreen) will show some explanatory information about that item.
  • When you are ready to start your own trove, click on the link to Subscribe.
  • As you add members to your trove and they start to add treasures or memories and make changes or comments, the bell icon near your name in the upper right-hand area of your screen will notify you of those changes. You can also choose to be notified of any activity on your trove by email. The settings are found in your user profile.
  • Remember to hit the "save" icon on the left-side menu when adding items to your treasure. If you navigate away from the page before saving, the additions will not be saved. This is also true for saving memories.
  • When you log in, you will see an icon of a bug Give Feedback on the left side menu. We are always interested in your feedback. We constantly try to improve your experience and have more features in the works.

There are no hard and fast rules about what is a treasure. It is whatever item or memory that you want your descendants to have and know.
